讲座内容:
Anglicization of –able and Its Idiosyncrasies (by Osamu Koma)
One of the most productive derivational suffixes in Present-day English, -able, which was borrowed from Romance languages (Old French and Latin)
during the Middle English and Modern English periods, has acquired its high
productivity in the course of the history of English. Because of its unique
historical background, it has shown various kinds of idiosyncrasies: phonological,
morphological, syntactic and semantic ones. By showing these idiosyncrasies,
I would like to raise interesting questions to be tackled in the field of Historical
Morphology.
